The Oak Three

Round our summer house there is a lot of oak threes. I took a photo of them and especialy the leaves vere interesting. I used the photo in the EQ7 and thought the colors blended vith the snow dyed fabric I made some time ago.
I decided to make a small quilt with the theme Oak three.

Broches

I am more and more into embroidery, and here I mean free embroidery on my sewing machine and some times also by the hand.

Resently i had some ideas from the artist Linda Miller and her book "Creative machine embroidery". The book is very recomendable for those who embroider this way.

Together we have made the 5 broches shown below here. Hanne has given me the

motives and I have done the embroidery. Super teamwork. :-)

I have learned that you have to fill your bobbin with the tread you use for the embroidery. One of the broches is not so clear in color because I used some white thead in the bobbin.

ATC

For the first time I have made an ATC - Artist trading Card. I joiner the group in Stitching Fingers and accepted a swap. We had to make an ATC about the wildlife and send it to an other person on the list. I nce have tried this with Fabric Postcards and I liked it so much.
I think that an ATC is smaler than the FP and it was more difficult to do it.

Summer quilt

Last summer I started sewing a quilt inspired by the way Alicia Merrett does. http://www.aliciamerrett.com/

She has shown how to cut and sew on tre videos on you tupe. Find them and learn.

I wanted to make a small quilt for our terrasse in pale colors, but it took some time. I learned that the binding has to be sewn in hand to make it right. Not on the sewing machine. I will remember that in the future.

I gave the quilt to a little girl I know.

HANSEN

Our neighbours has had a small dog called HANSEN. They were so kind to bring back a PW book from the USA for me, and of corse I had to make HANSEN a carpet to sleep on.

Inspiration form Jenny Rolfe

In the spring I bought a book about making bags from Jenny Rolfe. Many times I have seen it on the shelves in our library and I was always amaced about the bags. Then I found a copy in danish and bought it.

Her ideas and inspiration made me do these things:

A small purse to my mother in law:

Two little bags for your cigarettes or mobile phone

And as the last bag I dyed some fabric especial to this project, bought some matching fabric and some big pearls for decoration:

I know that I will return to the book in the future to get some more inspiration.

Again I am smoking.

Terrible - but all though my life is ballanced.

This summer I have done a lot of sewing, and I will present some of the things I have made here on the blog.

Quilting - first attempt.

I really want to learn how to machine quilt, and here you can see one of my first attempts.

I used the teknik of Vickki Pignatelli to make the center with the flower and made the borders of matching colors. All fabric is dyed by myself.

I have decided to practise the machine quilting every day, and yesterday I went to a fabric store to buy fabric and batting for my exercises.

I am a non smoker

For about 40 years I have smoked, but nov I have quited smoking.

In 3 weeks I have gone from 10 smokes a day to none. I am very proud to do that and I am sure that I have a better life.

The other day I bougth a bunch of blue hyacints for my selves. I could sense them and I loved them. Both the color and the sense. Here they are:

Clothes for Christmas presants

I have made clothes for my niece and for my daughter as Christmas presents. I know that they were happy about the presents.

The fabric I made this vest of come from South Africa. I managde to get hold of some buttons made there too so that the vest would be a remenberence for my niece about her stay there.

Kaffe Fasset

I have been on an exebition with Kaffe Fasset works. Very colorfull and inspired. Bought some fabric of him, but has to mix it with other fabric in only one color. In fact I don't like that things becomes too colored.

HIBISCUS

I have done some expiriments with fusing and quilting my own pictures. I have bourht the DVD where Laura Wasilowski explains the tekniqe how to fuse. I love that way of making pictures and especially flowers as this Hibiscus.

MY DAUGHTER

My daughter has come back and I am SSSOOOOOOO happy. :-) In 7 years we haven't had any contact, but right now everything seems to be allright. We want to see each other again and it is so good. We help each other and take part in the daily life. I am so happy.

POPPIES

I have been busy sewing for the last period sewing on my new serger, but I have also made a quilt for my brother. He wants the colors red and black for things to his living room. I found some wonderful fabric with poppies at Hannes shop http://hanneshjemmeside.dk/?page_id=114

The fabric inspired me and combined with black fabric I think it would make great color combination. I made the quilt simple and used the beautiful fabrics. It was very fun to make and I know he likes it.

I also managed to make 3 cusins for his sofa.

SNOW DYING

My friend Lone told me how to use the snow for dying facric.

It sounded funny, so as the snow came, I tried it.

First I washed fabric in soda, salt and water and spred it out in the bokses.

Then I filled them with snow. When they were filled I mixed some dye and spred it ower the snow.

It took 2 days before the snow was melted. I washed the colars out and washed and dried the fabric.

Winter 2010

Hello again.

Now I,m back from three month without my sight.

Again I can see and I am awaiting new glasses from the dealer. I need reading glasses - for reading but also for sewing.

Although I have managed to end some projects this past year:

My grandchild had a new bathing dress when she visit us this summer.

I also finished a quilt for my father when he was 80:

I have leaned a lot sewing the quilt, and I know he is happy about ti.

Again I have found joy and inspiration in using the technique from Vikki Pignatelli. My friend Lone Schaadt showed the idea. If you are only drinking one mug of coffie why not protect the table a bit. Use the coffie plates.

A QUILT FOR MY MOTHER

Last week I finished a quilt for my mother to celebrate her 80 years birthday. Most of the fabric I have dyed and some of it is bought. It has been a hard work, but also very funny and I have learned a lot sewing it. Here you can see pictures from the process a the finished quilt.

BLOCKS FROM EQ

I am working with my EQ program and every time I think that it is funny. But to get the results made in stitching is something else. I can imagine that my computer products are sewed, but it doesn’t work so fast. Therefore I decided to try some of the blocks I made on my computer, and to use my home dyed fabrics. This is the result. I am satisfied with the blocks and the sewing, but I am not content with the brown ending of the quilt. I have learned that I must train free machine quilting and to use the special binding foot for my sewing machine.

FREE MACHINE EMBROIDERY

I snapped this photo on one of our trips round to the summer house. The small river is a place we often stop to have a rest and trough the years this place has been place we remember. I saw the tree and its reflection in the water. There was a motif I could use for embroidery. I have decided to do more of this kind of sewing, because it can combine my photo interest and my sewing interest.

Christmas present for my grand daughter. I do not know what Olivia wishes for Christmas. As I visit her in October I bought a play car for her. I have decided to make her Memory game although she is only 2 years old. I hope the parents will help her to use it.

MACHINE EMBROIDERY

Some weeks ago I went to a seminar with Bettina Andersen as a teacher and inspirer.She has written the book “Embriodery natruraly”.

I read the book before the course and it was inspiring. I brought pictures of nature that had to be the basic for my work on the seminar. I have learned to use the nature as an inspiration. To use my sewing machine for free embroidery was a new experience and I used all different kind of thread. I used Ultra Solvi is a “wash away” product for sewing and also other different kinds of new materials such as Paint Sticks. You can see my results from the seminar here below. I also show the pictures that inspired me.

Thee trunk bag. The pattern on the tree trunk is used for the embroidery on the bag.

Redcurrant. I had a good experience by picking our redcurrant this summer.

Hald lake This picture is from Hald Lake and I love it because of the colors.

Paint Sticks The paint Sticks can be used for marking up different patterns on surfaces. After the paint has dried and the fabric ironed, the sewing start.

I love to dye my own fabric. I have done some batik dying, but then I found the artist Vikki Pignatelli. Inspired by her work and metode of sewing I started to dye Procion MX colors. Here you can se the first tree colors and a mix of them on one piece of fabric.

I have bought some fabrics to make two projects, a dress and a hat for my grand daughter and a baby quilt for a small baby, that hopefully arrives to our family in the mear future. I have to plan the sewing of the quilt using the programe Electric Quilt 6.

New candle bags

Again family had to have gifts - candle bags. It was a bit crazy to sew noums vith the summer outside, but the reciever is wild about noums.

Tai chi

This week end my bonus son wanted to sew some trausers he had to use in his Tai Chi training. We bought the fabric but he made the patteren, cut the fabric and sewed everything him self. Of course I was a guide.

New candle bags

I keep on sewing candle bags as gifts for friends and family. I have also managed to finish a tablecloth.

CANDLE BAGS

I have made two bags for candles.

The white and black one is made with some black patchwork decorations and then covered with machine stitches.

The green one is made of small pieces of self dyed fabric - all of them green. The seems are covered with different kind of decorative seems like cracy patchwork. The inside of the green bag is in fabric with small pink flowers.

Kirsten Klein

Yesterday I visited an art exebition on Silkeborg Bad. I saw some amacing photos from a woman called Kirsten Klein. The photografer has really the sence for the motifes and I felt that her sensations was all over the picture room. I decided to buy an other camera - not to make pictures like hers, but to be able to watch the world this way and in black and white.

COW PAREDE

Some years ago we visited Prag in our holiday. At the same time there was an art excebition from the cow parade. It was very funny to walk around finding the cows and we thought it was a special idea.

As we came home and looked roung the area we live in, we found out that there were not many cows on the fields. Here are mainly huge pig farms. As a protest agaings that I decided to sew a wall carpet called "Thorning Cow Parade"

I started sewing it last week.

HANDBALL

I love the European game "Handball". Recently the Danish mens team won the European champinonship and I watched it on TV. They have played exiting games against teams from Norway, Germany and Croatia. The team was celebrated in Copenhagen as they came home and it was a big party to the hole country.

FUNGUS

Very often we go to the woods and collect eatable mushrooms. They are a delicacy in cooking and the trip gives us frish air and exercise. But do not pick and eat every mushroom you find. You have to know a lot about them so that you doesn't bring back some that poison you.

Autumn 07 I have exchanged fabric postgards with a group of people mainly from the USA. We have a group on Yahoo where we write to each other and gives messagen about how and when we send ad recieve cards. I have made a lot of cards and send them and recieved wonderfull fabric postcards from the other members.
